A Pathway to the Medical Field
As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) you will perform tasks that help patients, physicians, nursing staff, and other departments in health facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. You will help keep the facility organized and maintain communications between patients and medical staff. Each day will vary for you, one day greeting and checking in patients and scheduling appointments, and the next compiling patient charts and transcribing physicians’ order. Government agencies and insurance companies also hire Health Unit Coordinators.
South Central College’s HUC program can be completed in one semester and offers you a pathway to advance your academic career in other medical fields. After completing the program you will be eligible to take the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators Certification Exam and become a Certified Health Unit Coordinator.
