Math and Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences

Although there is no universally agreed upon definition for mathematics, many in the field tout it as an art form while others merely describe it as “something that mathematicians do.”  What is generally agreed upon, however, is that mathematics is the study of quantity (arithmetic), structure (algebra), space (geometry), and change (analysis).  In presenting these areas of study, South Central College aims to provide meaningful courses that elaborate upon the basics of mathematics.  The SCC curriculum also delves into advanced concepts and theorem in order to stretch the logical reasoning capabilities of your mind.

The area of science at South Central College encompasses the study of the physical or material world with knowledge that is gained through observation and/or experimentation. This may or may not include actual experimental data collection.  Contemporary science is generally divided into the areas of the natural sciences, which is the study of the material world, and the social sciences, which focuses on the actions of people and societies.
