South Central College Receives $1.1 million Grant to Support Student Success
(July 28, 2015) South Central College (SCC) has received its second TRiO Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The five year $1.1. million grant provides $220,000 each year to provide individualized services that assist underrepresented students achieve academic success. The program at SCC will benefit 140 students each year.
“The TRiO program has been incredibly successful for these students and rewarding for all of us at South Central College,” said Dr. Annette Parker, President of SCC. “To see these students realize their strengths and then learn how to use these strengths to meet their personal and academic goals is an inspiration to us all.”
The grant period runs from September 2015 – August 2020. This is the second TRiO grant awarded to SCC. The previous grant, which ran from September 2010 – August 2015, was such a success that the college received 15 extra “Prior Experience” Points (the maximum allowed) added the scoring of their current grant application. The extra points were based on SCC’s ability to meet and exceed the previous grant’s objectives every year, including the following most recent performance in the 2013 -14 school year:

SCC also earned three additional “Competitive Preference Priority Points” added to their current grant application. The points came from SCC’s successful proposal for ways to improve effectiveness of coaching using an “evidence based proactive advising” model designed to increase student success.
