SCC Business Professionals of America Chapters Triumph at National Competition


(March 16, 2016) - The 2016 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference was held May 5 - 9 in Boston, MA. The theme of this year’s conference was "This Is Our Time!" and it certainly was for some talented South Central College students.  

Students from the South Central College’s North Mankato and Faribault chapters of Business Professionals of America (BPA) competed in a variety of events, with the following with the following earning a spot on stage for placing in the Top 10 in their categories.                              


National Top 10 Finishers from SCC North Mankato Campus BPA Chapter

Jessica Mock (from North Mankato): College Accounting 1st Place (National Champion), College Payroll Accounting 2nd Place, Personal Financial Management 6th Place

Austin Oropeza (from North Mankato) and Dan Smith (from North Mankato): Video Production Team 3rd Place

Tim Sargeant (from Mankato): Computer Network Technology/MTA Networking Fundamentals 3rd Place

Naomi Anywaush (from Granite Falls), Teighlor Schmuck (from North Mankato) and Katrina Voda (from Madison Lake): Presentation Management Team 4th Place

Chandler Brown (from New Prague), Erin Schreiber (from Rochester) and Benjamin Vlasak (from Montgomery): Financial Analyst Team: Financial Analyst Team 4th Place

Amanda Mundt (from Madison Lake): Digital Publishing 6th Place

Kootaws Yang (from New Brighton): Prepared Speech 6th Place

Mahad Dhiisow (from Mankato) Liban Omar (from St. Peter) and Matthew White (from Faribault): Small Business Management Team 10th Place

Jacob Delesha (from Faribault): College Accounting 8th Place

Hamdi Abdi (from Faribault): Interview Skills 9th Place, Human Resources Management 10th Place

All three of the Faribault Campus Chapter students also earned their Ambassador Torch Award for leadership and service to their chapter and community.

In addition, SCC and BPA alumna Marissa Wunderlich from Faribault was awarded a medal for the BPA Alumni Hall of Fame.


Business Professionals of America is a national organization for college, high school, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nation-wide networking of education and business and industry.  BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
