The Minnesota Association of SkillsUSA has named South Central College Instructor Todd Huxford its Post-Secondary Advisor of the Year. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, instructors and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce, while helping each student excel. South Central College is one of 29 Minnesota community and technical colleges participating in SkillsUSA.
Huxford has been a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration (HVAC) instructor at South Central College (SCC) for the past 24 years. As a SkillsUSA advisor for SCC, Huxford serves students of this institution, but has also made significant contributes to the success of SkillsUSA at the state and national level. He has been an advisor for the past 24 years, on the Minnesota Executive Board for 21 years and a National Master Educator for the past 21 years.
Huxford believes the SkillsUSA program is invaluable in helping positioning SCC students for future success. In addition to the guidance he provides these students as an advisor, his national involvement also helps him create valuable relationships with industry partners. “Through SkillsUSA I have had the opportunity to work alongside industry leaders from whom we have gained knowledge and resources, as well as key contacts for employing our students,” said Huxford.
SkillsUSA is a nationwide career and technical student organization that serves more than 300,000 students and their instructors in technical, skilled and service occupation instructional programs. The Minnesota SkillsUSA Association has offered leadership opportunities to more 200,000 student members since 1967, with a current annual membership of more than 3,000. There are chapters at 29 Minnesota community and technical colleges and 50 high schools or cooperative centers.
South Central College (SCC) is a comprehensive community and technical college that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU), with campuses in Faribault and North Mankato. SCC has more than 50 technical career and professional programs, with a variety of Certificate and Associate degree options. The college also offers a liberal arts and sciences curriculum that enables learners to earn an Associate in Arts degree from SCC before transferring to complete a Bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.
