LWV Announces Candidate Events

The League of Women Voters, St. Peter Area will host several events offering voters the opportunity to hear candidates discuss issues of importance to them.  All events are free and open to the public.  All candidates for state and local offices have been invited to their respective events.  

Wednesday, October 5th will see the League and the South Central College Student Senate hosting an informal “Meet and Greet” event for candidates for Minnesota State Senate and House seats in Senate Districts 19-A and 19-B.  It will take place 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Heritage Hall of South Central College, 1920 Lee Blvd., North Mankato.

The League will also host the following candidate forums.  The public may submit questions for the candidates in writing at the event or prior to it by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. •    North Mankato Mayor and City Council Candidate forum, October 12, 7-8:30 p.m., Conference Center B, South Central College, 1920 Lee Blvd., North Mankato
•    Minnesota Senate District 19-A Senate and House Candidate Forum, October 18, 7-8:30 p.m., Room 219, St. Peter Community Center, 600 S. 5th St., St. Peter.  Co-sponsored by the St. Peter Chamber of Commerce and the St. Peter Herald.
•    Nicollet County Commissioner, Districts 1,3,5 Candidate Forum, October 20, 7-8:30 p.m., Governor’s Room, St. Peter Community Center, 600 S. 5th St., St. Peter.  Co-sponsored by the St. Peter Chamber of Commerce and the St. Peter Herald.

All forums will be taped and aired on public access TV.

In addition, the League of Women Voters will sponsor a showing of Southern Poverty Law Center’s documentary, “Selma: Bridge to the Ballot,” October 13, 7 p.m. at the Traverse des Sioux Treaty Site, 1851 N. Minnesota Ave., St. Peter.  This forty-minute film depicts the story of the students and teachers of Selma who stood up for the right to vote.
