South Central College student Kyle Cavenah from Rapid City, SD today received the 2109 Presidents’ Student Leadership Award at the Minnesota Campus Compact Statewide Summit at St. Catherine University in St. Paul this year.

This Presidents’ Student Leadership Award provides an opportunity for member presidents and chancellors to give statewide recognition to an individual student or a student organization that models a deep commitment to civic responsibility and leadership, evidenced by initiative, innovative and collaborative approaches to addressing public issues, effective community building, and integration of civic engagement into the college experience.

Kyle is receiving the award for spearheading a new initiative to institute Civic Discussions on campus, where he leads students in hot button, culturally relevant discussions while demonstrating meaningful, respectful civil discourse.

Kyle is a 2nd year student in the Associate of Arts degree program at South Central College. Upon graduation, he plans to further his education in political science.
