Emily is a first-generation college student who has been interested in the accounting field since high school. She chose South Central College for its small class sizes and homelike atmosphere. EMILY felt comfortable at SCC right away, and she was grateful when faculty and staff took a personal interest in her future. Emily was selected to receive a $750.00 scholarship, which lifted a large financial burden for her family. She plans to graduate in the spring with an Associate of Applied Science degree in accounting and looks forward to launching her career at a local business in Mankato.
Briell has overcome many obstacles. Early in life, she was forced to leave an abusive relationship with nowhere to go. She took refuge at the CADA House in Mankato, where she raised her son as a single mother. She enrolled at South Central College. When Briell received her $500.00 scholarship, she was reassured that she had made the right choices, and she was making progress towards a successful future for her son and herself. Although she has experienced some health issues during her time at SCC, she continues to be a successful student. Upon graduation, she plans to transfer to a 4-year school to pursue her Bachelor’s degree and become a Licensed Social Worker.
