Purpose:  To provide access to the courses, events and activities of the college by arranging sign language interpreting services to students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing.

Applicability: Sign language interpreters will be provided to deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) students who make a request and demonstrate a need for interpreter services. Interpreting services are available to prospective students, current students, and college guests needing communication access to SCC college courses, customized training, orientations, meetings, events, and activities.

Definition: Deaf and profound hearing loss: an individual with a hearing loss of such severity that the individual must depend primarily on visual communication, such as writing, lip reading, manual communication and gestures (Minnesota statute 135A.165)
