South Central College-North Mankato Student Senate Named MSCSA “Student Senate of the Year” and “Star Campus”Student_Senate_5-2012_opt

The South Central College-North Mankato student senate was recently named the 2012 “Student Senate of the Year” by the Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA). The South Central College-North Mankato Student Senate was also awarded “Star Campus” status by MSCSA at our Spring General Assembly.

The “Student Senate of the Year” honor is given to one student senate annually by MSCSA. The South Central College-North Mankato student senate was nominated for the award by a student leader from another campus and selected by the MSCSA statewide student leadership to receive the honor.

The South Central College-North Mankato student senate worked hard this year to recruit more students, to stay active in MSCSA campaigns by tabling for signatures in support Pell Grant funding and textbook reforms and to reach out to their community by bell ringing for the Salvation Army.

The “Star Campus” award is given out to MSCSA’s most active student senates. Only 10 of the 47 MSCSA member senates from two-year Minnesota State College and University (MnSCU) campuses achieved “Star Campus” status this year. Criteria for the award include active attendance at MSCSA events, participation in MSCSA campaigns and recruiting students to advocate at the Minnesota Capitol.

The South Central College-North Mankato student senate accepted the award at the MSCSA Spring General Assembly on Saturday, April 21 at the Breezy Point Resort in Breezy Point, Minn.
