The Faribault Campus Foundation's 2012-13 community fund drive kicked off on Thursday, November 8. A fund drive team of 45 volunteers, led by Kristen Koch, has raised $84,500 toward the goal of $135,000.
In November the Faribault Campus Foundation and the Faribault Area Public Schools Educational Trust Association (dba Faribault Falcon Scholarship Fund) announced the receipt of gifts from the estate of Gertrude Beaupre to provide scholarships for students.
Gertrude Beaupre passed away in September, 2011 at age 94. She made provisions through her estate plan to bequeath over $1 million to the two non-profits in Faribault.
Ms. Beaupre was born in Randolph, MN. She and her first husband, Ennis Melby, operated Red's Hamburger Shop (also known as Red's Lunch) in Northfield, until his sudden death in 1954. In 1956 she married Mervin "Pete" Beaupre of Faribault and moved to Faribault. She assisted him with the operation of Beaupre Electric until their retirement in 1986. She was survived by her second husband, Mr. Beaupre.
Ms. Beaupre did not have children and in a letter written in 1997, she outlined her intention to honor commitments she and her first husband made before he died to set up a scholarship for students who had the talent and wished to go to college but didn't have the finances. Both organizations plan to award scholarships from Ms. Beaupre's gift in the spring of 2013.
