South Central College North Mankato Campus Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization designed to support the students and programs of South Central College's North Mankato Campus. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of area volunteers, including SCC alumni.
Each year the Foundation enlists the help of volunteers from the community to implement the major fundraising initiatives included in our Annual Campaign, which encompasses all of our fundraising efforts throughout the year. Our community-wide Annual Fund Drive commences each fall, along with our Insiders' Campaign for faculty and staff members, and a fundraising dinner and Golf Classic are held each spring. Thanks to the generous community-wide support for these initiatives, the Foundation awarded $197,950 in scholarships to 260 deserving SCC students in the spring of 2009. Our Scholarship Awards Presentation was held the evening of September 1, 2009, and our major disbursement of funds to students takes place at the start of fall semester each year. Photos from past awards presentations can be found at http://southcentral.edu/galleries/scholarship. In addition to funding scholarships, some contributions are used for instructional equipment and faculty/staff development, and some are added to the Foundation's endowment where the principal remains in perpetuity, and earnings are used to fund SCC's scholarships and programs. Our newest event, Restored Glory, was held in June 2009. The event showcased restored automobiles, agricultural equipment, and motorcycles.
Annual Fund Drive
The 2009-10 Annual Fund Drive began in mid-October. Tim Ray, Computer Technology Solutions, is serving as Fund Drive Chair, and the following individuals are leading the ten teams of volunteer fundraisers: Marcia Bahr, Mankato Clinic, Bonnie Barrer, Pepsi-Cola of Mankato, Inc., Joe Frederick, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, Alan Kiefer, ProGrowth Bank; Dan Robinson, Lidstrom Commercial Realtors; Bryan Sowers, US Bank; Jay Thompson, Wells Fargo Bank; Linda Annis, Mankato Clinic, and Alyssa Bowers, Community Bank, and Pam Jagdfeld, United Prairie Bank. "A Solid Foundation for Tomorrow's Success--Return on Investment" is our theme, as we work together to raise funds to support the scholarships and programs of South Central College, providing students with the support they need to achieve their goals.
SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner
The SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner, formerly known as High Tech Temptations, is held each spring to raise funds for the scholarships and programs at SCC. This fundraiser allows SCC's Culinary Arts students to demonstrate their skills, while participants revel in the spectacular dining experience. Extravagance 2009 was held the evening of March 26. The setting was very different this year, designed to give participants an insider's view of SCC's agricultural programs. Agribusiness, Small Business Management, and Farm Business Management instructors and students conducted live demonstrations, adding an exciting element to the event. Live and silent auctions were held, and Linder Farm Network's Lynn Ketelsen was the keynote speaker.
Event sponsors included Kato Engineering (Gold), Leonard, Street & Deinard (Gold), Hy-Vee (Silver), McPherson Crop Management (Silver), Paulsen Architects (Silver), and United Prairie Bank (Silver).
Extravagance 2010 is scheduled for April 8, 2010. Please mark your calendars!
Golf Classic
The SCC Golf Classic, held each year at the Mankato Golf Club, is another important fundraiser for the college. The 15th Annual Golf Classic, held May 18, 2009, netted over $22,000 for the scholarships and programs at SCC. Many area businesses provided generous sponsorships for the event. One-hundred golfers participated. Activities included a silent auction, live auction, raffle, and a GOLFishing Contest sponsored by Johnson Outdoors, Inc. In addition, Mankato Implement and J. Long's sponsored a putting contest again this year, with a grand prize of a $500 J. Long's gift certificate. Leonard Street & Deinard served as scoreboard sponsor, dinner sponsors for the event were MICO, Inc., Kato Engineering, Wells Fargo Private Client Services, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Downs Foods Group, E.I. Microcircuits, Snell Motors, and K & P Johnson Farms; US Bank and A. H. Hermel Vending & Wholesale Co. sponsored the carts; local utility companies BENCO Electric, HickoryTech, Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy, and Charter Communications sponsored lunch; Valley Bank was our Auction Sponsor, and Scheel’s, Hy-Vee, and George's Fine Steaks & Spirits sponsored in part the prizes that were awarded to the winning teams. Many additional businesses and individuals contributed prizes and auction items for the event.
The 16th Annual SCC Golf Classic is scheduled for May 24, 2010 at the Mankato Golf Club.
Restored Glory
The first annual Restored Glory fundraising event was held Saturday, June 25, 2009, on SCC's North Mankato Campus. The event featured restored automobiles, agricultural equipment, and motorcycles. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended the event, our sponsors, and our committee members and volunteers who helped to make the day a success.
