Higher Learning Commission
CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students, employees and the many regional stakeholders who have contributed to the numerous successes of South Central College, that were reflected in the HLC Self-Study document and verified by the five-member HLC peer/evaluator team. As an outcome of your efforts, the HLC team will be making a recommendation to the North Central Association that South Central College receive 10-year accreditation status with the Association. The NCA Commission will take action on our accreditation status during their annual meeting in April of 2010. We appreciated the leadership of Jane Greathouse, Self-Study Chair, and the MANY team members who supported the self-study process. In addition, thank you to our many stakeholders who participated in the HLC listening sessions. We all need to be proud of the teamwork that creates the educational opportunities for the citizens of our region and state.
THANK YOU!
MnSCU Board of Trustees Listening Session
Representatives of our Board of Trustees held a Listening Session at MSU on February 1, to hear from our many stakeholders, faculty, staff and students. They provided input to the Board on a variety of subjects. One of SCC’s greatest supporters spoke about the role of technology and online instruction in the future of business personnel development. The trustees will be using the input to help them formulate their next work plan.
Spring Semester 2010
Once again, SCC student enrollment has hit an all time high. Our spring credits are up 8.7% compared with this date in 2009. I have begun this semester visiting classes and am proud to report that our students are enthusiastic about their classes and their instructors.
SCC Profile
Vice Presidents Nancy Genelin and Karen Snorek, along with your President, presented the SCC Profile to the Board of Trustees and Chancellor McCormick at the January Board of Trustees meeting. The profile included a demographic report attached to the board packet and an SCC power point presentation. The power point included a video of the college and a Google Earth presentation created by Evan Peterson which looked down at each campus and then pulled back and showed the 12 county region we serve. We spent approximately 20 minutes profiling our college followed by 20 minutes of Trustee questions. There was significant discussion on program advisory committees and college partnerships. Multiple trustees gave us very positive feedback
after the committee concluded its meeting. Thank you to everyone for your efforts to make SCC the institution we presented!
House Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Committee Hearing
Your President had the opportunity to highlight our 2010 Faribault Campus remodeling and expansion project before the House Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Committee on January 26. The committee asked about our growth in enrollment, our technical enrollments and finished by giving us accolades for our Mechatronics partnership.
Northfield Economic Development Meeting
Marsha Danielson and your President visited with the Economic Development leadership team from Northfield and Rice County to discuss their proposed Economic Development Park. We were able to offer a number of SCC partnership opportunities during the dialogue. It is our hope that SCC will have the option of supporting the team as they grow the northern Rice County area.
