Engineering Camp for Youth
Tuesday, July 17 - Thursday, July 19 (9:00 am - 3:00 pm)

Campers will enjoy a project-based, hands-on experience in four career areas:
Physics - Students will look at the physics of force, momentum, and impulse. Students will build two or three mechanisms and test the devices to determine the force generated. Students discover amazing science and math concepts through laboratory experimentation. This camp will help students explore some of the fundamental principles of physics including forces and motion through many hands-on activities, explorations, and demonstrations. What do you get when you take the physics of motion, add into some electrifying demonstrations, and mix it up with some chemistry? Everyone has a blast!
Mechatronics - Survival of the Fittest: Which animals will survive? Design, build and program robotics animals using LEGO Mindstorm kits and craft materials to look like the real thing. Using light sensors, touch sensors and ultrasonic sensors, animals will “find” food to survive when you play the Survival of the Fittest game. Will your creature be a leopard, an elephant, a hippogriff?
Global Positioning Systems - Explore the world around you using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Students will learn how satellites communicate with handheld GPS receivers in determining positional location, as well as current industry uses of GPS technology. Upon completion of a classroom presentation of material covering GPS technology, students will learn how to use a Trimble handheld GPS receiver to locate items on the campus grounds (geocaching).
Computer Integrated Machining - Students will get hands on experience working with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and Computer Aided Machining (CAM) software. Students will design and make their own personalized project to take home. The camp experience will include social and recreational activities. The camp will conclude with a family picnic where participants share their projects. Families will have an opportunity to meet camp instructors and tour college facilities.
