ITV Rooms: Common Issues and Fixes

At the beginning of every semester, a few common issues come to light regarding ITV rooms. The following are some reminders for people who use ITV spaces, whether or not they are participating in actual ITV events or classes.

Sound: If you turn the volume down, remember to turn it back up to a normal level before leaving the room. This is the biggest complaint of ITV users, especially when the instructor is at the remote site and the students can’t hear the instructions to fix the problem.

• TV Monitors: The television monitors and ITV system need to remain on even when you leave the room. The equipment is set to “go to sleep” after a period of time. When the next connection is ready, the equipment will “wake up” automatically.
• Document Camera: The document camera (which sits on the right side of the ITV desk) must be on to allow the displays to function. Don’t turn it off.
• ITV cabinet equipment: Users should never push any buttons in the ITV cabinet. Issues arise when amplifiers and other equipment are altered and not returned to their normal state.
• Night classes: Locked doors? The instructors of all evening ITV classes need to contact the head of facilities of the remote-site building to request that doors be unlocked. In North Mankato, that person is Russ Berndt, and in Faribault, your contact is Rick Sanders.
