We are nearing completion on a new viewbook for the college. Thanks to all those that provided input, especially Kelcey Woods-Nord for her expertise during the proofing stage. We look forward to having a new recruitment tool by the end of June.

River Hills Mall Display
South Central College will again be renting a kiosk at the River Hills Mall in Mankato to promote the college June 1 through August 31, 2012.

Look for our display at the mall!

Moon Dogs Baseball
Play ball! SCC will be featured on the fence this year to promote our college. We have always supported the Mankato Moon Dogs in the form of advertising but this year we’ll be a lot more visible. Get out and enjoy a game!

eCatalog Update
South Central College will be moving to an electronic catalog effective the end of May. Donna Marzolf will be setting up meetings with faculty to review the new format and make any needed changes prior to our catalog launch.

Thanks to all those who have served on our eCatalog committee throughout the past three years. Special thanks to Kathryn Rusch, Steve Pottenger, Donna Marzolf, Scott Rahe and workstudy student, Ben Lageson for all their work on this project. We also ask for your patience as we roll out this new model!

eCatalog Update
South Central College is embarking on an exciting new eCatalog concept that is currently under construction and being tested for accuracy. The process for updating catalog information has changed dramatically. We will no longer print an annual catalog. Scott Rahe, SCC Graphic Designer, will no longer be the contact for your catalog changes. Our eCatalog will be populated by extracting information directly from DARS and ISRS. Thus, it is imperative that your program information in the system be accurate. PROGRAM CHANGES MUST BE MADE AT SCC’S CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETINGS. There are only three meetings remaining for this fiscal year (March 2, April 6 and May 4-- Any new item must be presented by the April 6th meeting as they will need to be viewed by the Curriculum Committee members a month before being approved). If you have needed changes, please get on the agenda for an upcoming Curriculum Committee Meeting by calling or emailing Curriculum Committee Chair, Sue Steck. At a date in late May (yet to be determined) we will populate the pages of our eCatalog with information directly from the system. It is our intent to do updates annually, archiving the previous year’s catalog, which is similar to our current catalog process.

Donna Marzolf and Scott Rahe will be hosting training sessions for the key faculty members (those designated to deal with catalog changes) to review the information that we have on the eCatalog site.

Steve Pottenger, Donna Marzolf and I will be providing an eCatalog demonstration at the Monday, March 19th Faculty/Staff Meeting to give everyone a preview of the new model.

Our eCatalog project has taken nearly three years of planning, work and investment (thanks in part to Perkins Funding and Kathi Rusch) to get to this point. Like all great strides undertaken by the college, this new approach will have a few obstacles to overcome as we roll it out. Please bear with us as we try to resolve the issues that are certain to arise.

I am proud that SCC is very progressive in our move to the eCatalog model. This has not been an easy process, and I need to acknowledge with appreciation the work of our SCC eCatalog Committee to getting us to this point. Special thanks to SCC Registrar, Donna Marzolf, SCC Webmaster, Steve Pottenger and Steve’s brilliant student worker, Ben Lageson, for their huge contribution in time, talent and energy.

If you, or your department, have catalog concerns that you feel need to be addressed, or have questions relating to the process for changes, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Thanks for your support as we move through this new process!

Again thanks to all of you who have willingly participated in the photo shoot held on the North Mankato Campus on 2/22. We captured a lot of great photographs in both our liberal arts and technical programs. Special thanks to our webmaster/photographer Steve Pottenger who does an awesome job of capturing these photos to make our publications and website look great!

We have just completed two exciting new commercials to be used on TV and our area theatres. One focuses on our Liberal Arts Division and the other on our technical programs. View the commercials at: or see them in a theatre near you soon!

Thanks to the faculty who participated in our recent Major Night activities on Tuesday, February 21 (North Mankato) and Thursday, February 23 (Faribault). We sincerely appreciate your time and effort in promoting your programs! Attendance was “marginal” and we have plans to ‘change things up’ for the coming fiscal year. In the fall, we are planning a Technology Showcase event for both campuses. Tentative dates for the events are Tuesday, October 2 (Faribault) and Thursday, October 4th in North Mankato. More details to follow as we try to coordinate with area schools to bus students for our event.

In the spring, it is our intention to continue with our Major Day event. Stay Tuned!!

Please join us for our last two meetings for the fiscal year! We will meet on Wednesday, March 14th and April 11 from 2-3:30 PM in C129 (North Mankato) and B106 (Faribault). We have been making great progress throughout the year. Thanks to all those SCC faculty and staff members who have contributed to our progress.

Ann_AndersonSCC Chevy Cruze!
Director of Admissions, David Miller had a dream of having an SCC vehicle used for student recruitment. One that kids would notice. North Mankato Campus Foundation Executive Director, Tami Reuter turned that dream into a reality when she landed an amazing donation from Mankato Motors! Tami and President Stover just received SCC’s new recruit-mobile during ceremonies at Mankato Motors on Thursday, January 19th. The fun began earlier when SCC’s Graphic Communications students were asked to design custom paint to adorn our vehicle. Dozens of designs were submitted and an SCC committee narrowed the selection to three designs. Mankato Motors then had the three designs on display at their dealership. Mankato Motors customers and employees then voted on the best design. A computer career student provided vision for a Facebook presence that would track the progress of our car while the Auto Body students painted the car and Computer Integrated Machining students added some “bling”. This is the ultimate public relations project that is involving many of our departments and providing an excellent opportunity to show off our technical expertise! Thanks to all of those involved in every aspect of this project!

If you stop by Mankato Motors be sure to extend your appreciation for this awesome donation to our college.

Steve Pottenger has done a marvelous job of creating a site that lets us easily update and promote the progress on the Chevy Cruze. Check out the site at:

Two New Commercials!
We are just making a few minor changes to two new 30-second commercials---one featuring our technical careers, the other shows the attributes of SCC’s Liberal Arts Education. We’ll be previewing the commercials soon! We’ll have TV buys and coverage on the local theatres beginning this spring.

New Viewbook
The Marketing Committee has chosen the design for our upcoming viewbook. This is the initial inquiry piece that is given to prospective students. We’re planning to get a photo of our new Chevy Cruze recruitment vehicle to add to the publication. Our new viewbook should be ready for use in mid-March.

Marketing & Recruitment Meeting---Don’t miss the fun!
We invite you to join the creative group of SCC faculty and staff that love to provide input on our marketing and recruitment goals. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8th from 2:00-3:30 PM in B106 (Faribault) and C129 in North Mankato. Please join us!
