Ann_AndersonSCC Chevy Cruze!
Director of Admissions, David Miller had a dream of having an SCC vehicle used for student recruitment. One that kids would notice. North Mankato Campus Foundation Executive Director, Tami Reuter turned that dream into a reality when she landed an amazing donation from Mankato Motors! Tami and President Stover just received SCC’s new recruit-mobile during ceremonies at Mankato Motors on Thursday, January 19th. The fun began earlier when SCC’s Graphic Communications students were asked to design custom paint to adorn our vehicle. Dozens of designs were submitted and an SCC committee narrowed the selection to three designs. Mankato Motors then had the three designs on display at their dealership. Mankato Motors customers and employees then voted on the best design. A computer career student provided vision for a Facebook presence that would track the progress of our car while the Auto Body students painted the car and Computer Integrated Machining students added some “bling”. This is the ultimate public relations project that is involving many of our departments and providing an excellent opportunity to show off our technical expertise! Thanks to all of those involved in every aspect of this project!

If you stop by Mankato Motors be sure to extend your appreciation for this awesome donation to our college.

Steve Pottenger has done a marvelous job of creating a site that lets us easily update and promote the progress on the Chevy Cruze. Check out the site at: http://cruze.southcentral.edu

Two New Commercials!
We are just making a few minor changes to two new 30-second commercials---one featuring our technical careers, the other shows the attributes of SCC’s Liberal Arts Education. We’ll be previewing the commercials soon! We’ll have TV buys and coverage on the local theatres beginning this spring.

New Viewbook
The Marketing Committee has chosen the design for our upcoming viewbook. This is the initial inquiry piece that is given to prospective students. We’re planning to get a photo of our new Chevy Cruze recruitment vehicle to add to the publication. Our new viewbook should be ready for use in mid-March.

Marketing & Recruitment Meeting---Don’t miss the fun!

The Right Skills Now - Accelerated Machining Training

South Central College is proud to be one of two colleges nationwide to participate in the Right Skills Now initiative that will kick-off tomorrow, October 27th at Productivity in Plymouth. The Right Skills Now is a manufacturing and workforce training program that will be piloted in Minnesota. Earlier this year, President Obama asked manufacturers to team up with educators at community and technical colleges to create an accelerated credentialing system for up to 500,000 more workers in advanced manufacturing across the country.

Through a partnership between the President’s Jobs Council, the National Association of Manufacturers, The Manufacturing Institute, South Central College and Dunwoody College of Technology, Minnesota’s Right Skills Now program will be a leading step toward achieving that goal. See the White House Press Release and our SCC video that provides additional details: http://southcentral.edu/news-releases/white-house-announces-scc-pilot-program.html

The Right Skills Now is scheduled to begin on our Faribault Campus in January and in North Mankato in March. Interested students are asked to contact SCC Admissions Advisor, Jeannie Ender at 507-332-5861.

"Building Successful Platforms"

Artist In Residence: Chris Emmanuel, September 2011

Chris_Emmanuel

As part of our 2011 Student Success Day activities, SCC students (and even our Dean of Student Affairs, Linda Beer) joined artist Chris Emmanuel in the completion of the mural in the Student Lounge on the North Mankato Campus. An unveiling ceremony was held on Wednesday evening, September 28th at 6:30 PM.

Emmanuel was born in the Tropics in 1960, as part of a family of five. His artistic talents were apparent by the age of 3. After graduating, he went on to study both Graphic Design and Theatre. He began his career in theatre, modeling and graphic design but later pursued his dream to become both artist and writer. On holiday, he fell in love with San Pedro, Belize, Central America, due to the mixture of culture, the sea, the sand and the surf. His paintings and books reflect his feeling of being connected to nature.

SCC truly enjoyed our special time with Chris Emmanuel and look forward to a possible similar project on our Faribault Campus in the near future.
