Our new radio jingle is complete and the master disks should be delivered soon. Thanks to Jeannie Ender, Elizabeth Prange, Jody Bloemke and Ramiro Alvarez for their input regarding the college jingle and Roberta Moorhouse for focus groups presented to her marketing students. For the first time, SCC will also have a Spanish version of our jingle available for use on several area Spanish radio stations. We will also be using our jingle to update our message on hold. For those of you who have called the college and have been put “on hold” ---you have listened to the welcoming voice of retired Business Office Manager, Doug Midthun….for years! Thanks Doug for serving as our “voice” even after retirement!

The Marketing and Recruitment Committee has been making final changes in preparation for our upcoming Major Day events:

(Academic Fair 9:45-11:00 AM)
Faribault – Thursday, February 14, 2012
(Academic Fair 10:15-11:00 AM)

We need faculty involvement for the Academic Fair portion of the day. Please make every effort to have an interactive display that engages our prospective students.

Funds are available on a first-come basis and application must be made prior to the end of fall semester. See Ann Anderson for any questions regarding the RFP process.

Stamats Market Research Group presented their findings on our Social Media Strategic Plan on November 19. Now the REAL work begins in refining our social media policies and procedures. Copies of the entire report are available on the SCC Website, along with all of our current marketing materials, by clicking on Faculty/Staff on the home page, then under Operational Resources click on “Marketing Materials. The report is entitled “SCC Social Strategy”.

Our Social Media Users group will meet on Tuesday, December 4, from 11-Noon in the IT conference room behind the Copy Shop. Please join us if you have an interest in shaping the policies and strategies to help shape our Social Media presence.

Our Marketing & Recruitment Committee will meet from 2:00-3:30 PM on the following Dates for Fall Semester:

Wednesday, December 12 (FBO-B114 and N MKTO E132).

We are a very active group and we’d love your input. Please make plans to join us for one or all of our Marketing & Recruitment Meetings. See David Miller or Ann Anderson for more details.

Please encourage your prospective and returning students to apply for scholarships online beginning December 10, 2012. The deadline to apply is March 8, 2013. We’ve simplified the scholarship process and eliminated the recommendation forms in favor of a request for contact information on references. This will hopefully save our faculty time and effort in completing numerous recommendation forms for their students. Please help spread the word. Our Foundations provided over $300,000 in scholarships during the past fiscal year.

The Connection Newsletter will be published monthly. Please submit your articles to Ann Anderson or Wallace Werling. No January edition. Our February Newsletter deadline is January 29th, for publication February 7th. Thanks for your assistance in providing news of the great things happening at SCC.

My letter of intent to retire July 31, 2013 was presented to President Stover last week. I have had the pleasure to serve three wonderful Presidents during my 23 years at the college; I’ve survived four name changes; two mission changes; and three mergers (Albert Lea, Faribault and MnSCU). I feel truly blessed to have worked for this fine institution, supported by my Graphics team (Wally Werling, Scott Rahe, Jane Geiger, and our talented workstudy student Cassandra Guyer) who continue to make me look good. I knew it was time to retire during the recent creation of our new SCC jingle ----my age missed the targeted demographic by nearly 40 years! It is definitely time for someone younger to assume the duties! The next months are certain to go by far too fast and I assure you…I’m not retired yet!
