02 July 2014South Central College Graphic Communications students brought home two awards from the national SkillsUSA competition, held June 23–27 in Kansas City. SkillsUSA is a nationwide career and technical student organization that serves more than 300,000 students and their instructors in technical, skilled and service occupation instructional programs.
Mallorie Malenke placed 5th in the nation for Pin Design and Maria Vargas placed 6th in the nation for T-shirt Design. Malenke and Vargas earned their way to the national competition by placing 2nd and 3rd in their respective categories at the Minnesota state competition in March. At the national competition they competed against approximately 50 other post-secondary students in their categories.
Malenke and Vargas both graduated from South Central College this past May with their Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS) degree in Graphic Communications. Malenke is continuing on at South Central College to earn her Business Management AAS degree. Vargas recently began working at Lifetouch.
South Central College (SCC) is a comprehensive community and technical college that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system, with campuses in Faribault and North Mankato. SCC has more than 50 technical career and professional programs, with a variety of certificate and Associate degree options. The college alos offers a liberal arts and sciences curriculum that enables learners to earn an Associate in Arts degree from SCC before transferring to complete a Bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university.
