SOUTH CENTRAL COLLEGE NAMES NEW DEAN OF TECHNOLOGY

 

Faribault and North Mankato MN - South Central College is proud to announce that Mark Baas has been chosen as the college’s Dean of Technology.  Mr. Baas will start employment with SCC on Monday, December 17, 2012.

 This position will serve as the Chief Information Officer for the College and be strongly committed to facilitating the use of traditional and electronic information resources, as well as technology resources, in teaching and learning.  Through supervision and leadership of the Department of Instructional Technology (DoIT), the Dean will provide technology planning, administrative leadership, and organization for all uses of information technology and library resources within the College.  This position will participate in a broad range of activities including facilitating the use of electronic and traditional information resources as well as technology resources in teaching and learning; investigating and implementing new technologies and tools for teaching and learning; and identifying areas where traditional information resource needs intersect with instructional technology.  This position oversees the college’s library services for academic support for SCC’s students, faculty and staff. This position is responsible for providing leadership, management and development of all electronically delivered distance education programs and student e-services in addition to providing strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation and coordination of the information systems in support of teaching and learning with technology.

 Mark holds an A.A. from North Iowa Area Community College, a B.A. from Buena Vista University in Mass Communication, a M.A. in Communication Studies from University of Northern Iowa, an Ed.D. in Educational Administration along with a J.D. from University of South Dakota.  His experiences include Director of Corporate e-Learning Projects at Rochester Community and Technical College, Associate Dean of Instruction and Educational Technology at St. Cloud State University and Director of The Center for Instructional Design and Delivery at University of South Dakota.  Mark has also been teaching as an adjunct instructor at University of South Dakota since 2005.
