North Mankato Campus Foundation to Award over $200,000 in Scholarships to South Central College Students Friday, September 7, 2012
North Mankato, MN - South Central College’s North Mankato Campus Foundation will provide more than $200,000 in scholarships to 275 freshmen and sophomore students during the college’s annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 7, 2012. The event will begin with an 11:30 A.M. lunch with SCC’s scholarship donors/recipients and the awards ceremony is scheduled for 12:20 PM in the John A. Votca Conference Center on SCC’s North Mankato Campus.
Julia Miller of St. Peter High School, Mariah Sonnek of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, and Jena Williams of Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, will be the recipients of the 2012 Presidential (full-tuition) Scholarships. 2011 Presidential Scholarship recipients, Joshua Barker of Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial and Cassandra Guyer of Madelia High School will be receiving their second-year full-tuition awards. To qualify, students must have maintained a 3.75 or greater GPA while demonstrating strong leadership skills.
Scholarship funding is provided through generous contributions by individuals and businesses, which support the Annual Fund Drive held each year by the North Mankato Campus Foundation.
“We are fortunate to live in a region where education has always been important, but the commitment of the scholarship program is another great example of the support that exists for our region’s dynamic future,” said Tami Reuter, Executive Director of the SCC North Mankato Campus Foundation. “The donor’s belief in our students’ unlimited potential and the students’ energy, enthusiasm and passion for learning, coupled with relevant, engaged faculty and the committed leadership of the Foundation board makes this program possible.”
SCC President, Keith Stover, praised the efforts of the Foundation, “South Central College is grateful for the development of partnerships with business/industry and individuals that make these scholarships possible. These scholarships are necessary to offset the rising cost of tuition, books and fees and to help us acknowledge the scholarly work of our SCC students”
