South Central College has named Dr. Susan Tarnowski its new Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs. In this key position Tarnowski will be responsible for all academic and student services, including program creation and review, faculty development, academic planning, accreditation, research and the myriad of services that drive overall student success.
“Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs is a pivotal position in moving South Central College forward,” said SCC President Dr. Annette Parker. “Faculty, staff, students and members of the community played an active role in our search and evaluation process, and their vital input helped identify the many leadership strengths Dr. Tarnowski will bring to South Central College.”
Dr. Tarnowski has 35 years of experience in higher education, with the past 18 years spent in administration. Her extensive background includes serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty for the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth (2001 – 2004), Vice President for Educational Services at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids (2004 – 2007) and Dean of Academic Affairs for The Art Institutes International Minnesota in Minneapolis (2007 – 2014).
Dr. Tarnowski holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in Music Education from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where she also earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction.
“I am truly excited to join the campuses of South Central College under the leadership of Dr. Parker,” said Dr. Tarnowski. “We are able to build on the history and strength of the institution as we envision new opportunities internally and enhanced collaborations with our greater community. I look forward to working with students, faculty, staff and community members in this effort.”
Dr. Tarnowski will start at South Central College on February 3.
