A new scholarship
I am honored to announce some exciting news for the future generations of students at SCC: Marilyn Swan and her family are establishing the Marilyn Swan Scholarship Endowment. The endowment principal will remain in perpetuity, and earnings will be distributed in the form of scholarships for SCC Nursing students in the years to come.
Marilyn Swan served as the Director of Nursing for South Central College from 2008-2012. As a registered nurse and educator, Marilyn continues to be very supportive of the student scholarship program. Her family shares in her passion to provide meaningful scholarships to SCC Nursing students.
The Marilyn Swan Scholarship Endowment is being established with personal gifts from Marilyn and Bill Swan, and from Marilyn’s Godparents, JoAnn and the late Glenn Hutchinson. They wish to build this fund to at least a $20,000 level that will permanently endow the scholarship, and make it available to a Practical or Professional Nursing student on the North Mankato Campus each year.
During Marilyn’s tenure at SCC, Marilyn secured the initial funds for the North Mankato Health Simulation Center from W. K. Kellogg of Chicago. Under her leadership, the professional nursing program underwent significant revision, resulting in licensure pass rates greater than 90%. Further, the practical nursing program now has an AAS degree option. Additionally, we are so appreciative for her leadership through our first NLNAC candidacy. While we miss her, Marilyn is very happy working directly with students in a faculty position at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and is continuing her doctoral studies.
If you see Marilyn or her family, please join me in saying “thank you” for their generous support of the students of South Central College.

Thank you for your support!
