Graduates

After a 25-year career in manufacturing, in 2003 I suddenly found myself unemployed when my company relocated to Mexico.  I not only found myself out of a job, I found it very difficult to reenter the workforce since manufacturing jobs were in decline, and because my technical skills were out of date when compared to the skills of people coming right out of school.

To help me better compete in this changing job market, I decided to expand my skills by enrolling in the SCC Accounting Program.  While I initially wondered what it would be like to go back to college as a "nontraditional" student, I had an absolutely fantastic time during my two years in the program.  The accounting classes that I took, led by instructors that genuinely cared about my personal success, prepared me for a range of career opportunities...from a job in a corporate financial department, to starting and managing my own business.  I was also involved in SCC student government, and in the SCC chapter of the Business Professionals of America, which added even more to my overall school experience.

At graduation time, it was very empowering to again have job skills that were sought out by area employers.  I now work as a Manufacturing Engineer/Cost Accountant for Taytronics, in St. Peter, MN.  I am very excited about my new career, and I have SCC to thank.

Sincerely,
