Library System Migration
The library is migrating to a new search and behind-the-scenes system. Learn how this change might impact you!

Project Overview
This winter, the Library will update many of its online systems. These updates will result in a new search interface, with improved usability across devices. We hope to move forward with this migration with minimal inconvenience to South Central College students, faculty, and staff.

Migration Status Update
January 2019: We're preparing for migration! There will be a brief system freeze January 24-29, 2019. Until this time, the current check out and interlibrary loan systems will continue to function. After January 29, we will run on the new system.

Why?
This migration is occurring in collaboration with other Minnesota State libraries and the MnPALS Consortium to modernize library functions and bring you a better online library.

Impact While Transitioning to New System

  • Check out Materials: You will be able to check out books and other materials at the Circulation desk like normal.
  • Renew Materials: You will be able to renew materials, online or in person, until January 24 - 29. During that week you will only be able to renew your materials in person or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (include name, barcode number or SCC #, and item barcodes). Online renewals will not work.
  • Course Reserves: You will be able to check out Course Reserves at the Circulation Desk like normal. Instructors will still be able to submit in-person requests as usual.
  • Request Interlibrary Loans: During the freeze, January 24 -29, you will not be able to create new ILL requests. This is part of the migration and cannot be avoided. We will announce when people will be able to submit requests again.
  • Access Databases: Our online search and library system updates will not affect your online access or use of our many databases! If you have any trouble accessing them, you can always search in our electronic resources A to Z list.
  • Find Materials on old SCC Library site (Jan 24-29): The old SCC Library search will work but it will not reflect current statuses of library items, including books during the January 24-29 freeze. That means that a library item's "Availability" online may not be accurate.

Is there anything I need to do?
Maybe! If you use the favorites function or save lists in your online library account, please be aware that these saves will disappear with the updates! You will want to export or migrate any favorites or material lists from your profile before the freeze happens. Use our instructions to guide you through the process. You should also check and change any links that are saved to the SCC Library MNPals site and the catalog as they won’t be there soon.

Exporting Favorites from Your Profile
Once the old SCC Library Search is frozen, your online Library account will be frozen, too. It will be going through updates, so any materials saved in your Library account, like saved searches or book lists, will be lost.

To prevent this and back up your information, check out the steps below.

  1. First, go to the Library homepage at southcentral.edu/Library/ and log into your library account.

If you have questions or concerns, please talk to a library employee.

Your South Central College ID card is your official student photo identification, and can be used to check out library materials, recreational items, and student-use computer equipment. Some on-campus services, including the libraries, help desk, and tutoring center, may require you to show it as proof of identity.

Outside of SCC, your ID can be used for library/resource privileges at MSU, Mankato, and other college libraries in the state of Minnesota. It can also be used to receive student discounts from area stores.

How do I get an ID?
IDs can be obtained at your main campus library. You will need to provide proof that you are a current student. This can be done with a copy of your schedule or your DARS report (given out at orientation or accessed through eServices). You will also need to show an official photo identification (driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.). Be prepared to have your picture taken!

What if I need a replacement?
If your SCC Student ID card is ever lost, damaged or stolen, you can get another one at your main campus library. You’ll need to show a copy of your course schedule to confirm your identity and the official spelling of your name. This can be found on your eServices account.

It’s likely that we won’t have to retake your picture, but be prepared for a photo.

A $10 replacement fee will be charged that can be paid at the Bookstore on either campus. You will need to bring the original receipt to the library as proof of payment.

No replacement fee will be charged if:

  • Encoding on the magnetic strip is worn out or unusable (with no other sign of misuse)
  • Photo or text is unusable because of fading from frequent use
  • You change your name (Your name change must be verified through the Registrar’s Office in written form and you’ll need to turn in your old card)
  • Your card is stolen (A stolen card must be verified with an official police report—or a copy of the official police report—referencing your lost card.)
