As of today, South Central College (SCC) is moving forward with a new mission statement. The new mission is the culmination of work that started over a year ago and concluded with approval by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities at their meeting yesterday afternoon.

South Central College’s new mission is:

South Central College provides an accessible and inclusive learning environment that cultivates student success and advances regional economic development.

“South Central College’s previous mission focused on the college’s role in offering accessible higher education. As a Minnesota State college that provides access to higher education for all at a location close to home, this is still important,” Annette Parker. “Our new mission takes this to the next level by also placing great emphasis on inclusivity and most important student success, which is our ultimate guiding force and purpose.”

Along with the new mission, South Central College is today updating its vision and values. All three were developed with input and evaluation from internal and external stakeholders. The new mission, vision and values, as well as SCC’s other guiding principles, are available on the mission page of the SCC website:

The mission was last updated in 2005, when SCC became a comprehensive community and technical college. With the change, SCC began offing an associate of arts degree that allowed students to take the first two years of their bachelor’s degree while earning their associate degree at SCC and then transfer to a Minnesota State system university to complete their final two years. Since then, SCC has introduced additional associate of arts, associate of fine arts and associate of science transfer degree programs. Over the years, South Central College has also added new career and technical programs based on workforce demands to provide enhanced opportunities for students while strengthening the regional economy.
