We Believe TRIO Students can Achieve and Succeed, is our program motto. It is our goal to provide TRIO/SSS students with the life-changing opportunity to earn a degree at South Central College (SCC). Given the fact that it is part of the SCC mission and purpose to provide quality learning opportunities and support services to ensure student success, all of us at SCC have a role to play in supporting students to graduate and meet their life’s goals. The over-all purpose of Student Support Services is to increase retention, graduation and transfer rates, and to help our students overcome the obstacles they may face. SSS looks deeper to identify the potential in students who otherwise might not get a chance to successfully navigate through college. We provide a strengths-based, individualized and relationship-based approach to meet the students right where they are. Many of our students are first-generation college students, come from low-income households, have disabilities, or are traditionally underrepresented students. Such challenges reflect society as a whole. As the gap between the rich and the poor increase along with the majority of SCC students that qualify for the program, the need for our services will continue to increase each year.
