Financial Relief for SCC and our Students

As part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the federal government established the Higher Education Relief Fund, which appropriated $1,873,482 to South Central College to cover costs related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19 with allocation designated as follows: 

  1. College's Expenses:  50% or $936,741 of the CARES funding is being used by the college itself for expenses incurred as a result of COVID-19. Examples of such expenses include the cost of putting more classes online, providing additional class sections to enable social distancing and implementing additional campus safety protocol.

  2. Students' Expenses: 50% or $936,741 of the CARES funding is used for the college to distribute financial assistance grants to students.  See below for details.  

CARES Financial Assistance Grants for Students 

 CARES financial assistance grants have been provided to students in two ways:

1. CARES Emergency Fund Grants -  Funds are still available for Spring Semester.  Apply today.

2. CARES Direct Distribution Grants:  Eligible Spring Semester 2020 students immediately impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak began receiving these grants automatically in May 2020 based on 2019-20 federal financial aid records and the number of credits taken in the Spring Semester 2020. 

Eligible Students

Most students who meet specific criteria were eligible to receive financial assistance grants. Those not eligible include students receiving a tuition waiver or having a third party paying for their tuition (e.g. employer), corrections students, apprenticeship students, high school/PSEO students, and Farm Business Management students.
