Course Title Roles Advocacy and Outreach
Description This is an introduction to the role and function of the Community Paramedic (CP). The student will learn about the Community Paramedic's specific role and function as a member of the health care team and part of the community. The student will identify the components of the role, define it, and explain the "scope of practice" for the position of CP. Additionally, the student will learn about the role of the CP as an advocate for clients in the community. Prequisites: Acceptance into the Communnity Paramedic Program. All CP courses must be taken concurrently.

  1. Define the "scope of practice" of the Community Paramedic.
  2. Explain the definition of health from a community perspective.
  3. Establish community links between health needs and social service systems.
  4. Outline methods on how to use health care and social service systems.
  5. Articulate needs and perspectives of the community to health and social service systems.
  6. Identify social determinants of health.
  7. Develop a plan to address social determinants of health in the community.
