Course Competencies

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the role or contribution of a cultural heritage to the humanities.
  2. Identify the links between historical events and human self-expression in a particular culture.
  3. Analyze a culture's major works in the arts and humanities in terms of their contribution to the understanding of the human experience.
  4. Demonstrate basic knowledge of a culture's major artistic movements, value systems, and the individuals who have shaped human culture such as Aristotle's elements of drama, the Renaissance, and its focus on the individual and movement.
  5. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of literary works of art (Poetry, Prose, Essay, Drama etc.).
  6. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of visual art forms (sculpture, painting, architecture etc.).
  7. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of a culture's performance art forms (Dance, Theater, Music, etc.).
  8. Participate in active learning by exposure to major works of the literary, visual, and performing arts in a particular culture.
  9. Understand your own ability to express personal identity in the arts.
  10. Write about the humanities/fine arts.
  11. Formulate personal reactions to the fine arts of a specific culture/country.
  12. Identify human values within the fine arts.
