Description This course deals with the many aspects of trauma, including kinematics, evaluation, management, packaging, and transport. Advanced Trauma certification may be obtained. (Prerequisites: Admission into the Paramedic Program. All classes must be taken in sequence.)

Course Competencies

  1. Integrate trauma pathophysiology and kinematics into patient assessment and clinical decision-making.
  2. Assess trauma patients to identify actual and potential injuries based on presentation and mechanism.
  3. Formulate field impressions using patient history, assessment findings, and injury patterns.
  4. Implement management plans for patients with traumatic injuries and trauma-related emergencies.
  5. Apply hemorrhage control, shock management, and resuscitative interventions in trauma care.
  6. Manage thermal, inhalation, chemical, electrical, and radiation injuries using current trauma care principles.
  7. Demonstrate trauma management and documentation in patient care scenarios.
  8. Communicate trauma assessment findings and treatment priorities using accepted EMS(Emergency Medical Service) formats.
