| Description | This course introduces skills utilized in a clinical setting for Medical Assistants. Using primary care as the framework students will apply their critical thinking skills and skills for assisting with health exams, obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures and treatments within the ambulatory care setting. Infection control techniques will be studied and sued in the clinical setting. The student will discuss the MA role in emergency preparedness and use first aid procedures. (Corequisites: MA 2010) |

Course Competencies
- Develop knowledge in principles of asepsis
- Describe infection control techniques
- Prepare exam and treatment areas
- Demonstrate comprehensive patient interview and documentation procedures
- Demonstrate obtaining vital signs and standard patient measurements
- Demonstrate the role of the MA in assisting with a general physical exam
- Define the role of the MA in assisting with examinations in the basic specialties
- Apply emergency preparedness and first aid procedures
- Demonstrate proper rehabilitation and body mechanics techniques
