| Description | This course introduces students to concepts in mental health and mental illness. The impact of culture and value systems on mental health is identified. Treatments discussed include medication and behavior therapy, crisis intervention, and group therapy. Appropriate nursing interventions for clients exhibiting maladaptive behaviors will be discussed. Clinical experience is included to reinforce theoretical concepts and quality client care. (Prerequisites: Successfully complete all Semester 1 Courses in order to advance to Semester 2 Courses) |

- Examine principles of psychotherapy theories and treatment.
- Determine mental health community resources.
- Apply concepts for therapeutic communication while maintaining confidentiality for clients experiencing a mental health disorder.
- Relate factors that support quality of care for the client with mental illness.
