| Description | This course covers the basics of precision agriculture high-tech equipment and strategies. Students will gain an understanding of the hardware, software, and management strategies of precision agriculture. Areas of study will include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), remote sensing, differential correction, yield monitoring, and grid mapping. (Prerequisite: None) |

Course Competencies
- Explain and understand how global positioning systems (GPS) work and how they are applied to the agricultural industry.
- By the end of the semester, demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the role of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in precision agriculture by successfully completing a project that involves using GPS technology to analyze agricultural data and optimize crop management practices.
- Explain the primary methods of soil sampling and analysis.
- Operate a hand-held computer to develop a map capable of being used for soil sampling a scouting.
- Understand the various electronic technologies used in gathering crop harvest information.
- Understand and provide examples of remote sensing as applied to agriculture.
- Understand the applications of variable-rate technology(VRT) in agriculture.
- Discuss how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used to input and store data, assist in the analysis of data, and create interpretive maps.
- Create a series of information and GPS reference maps.
- Display participation and professionalism in class.
