Students will practice these respiratory procedures in the lab to demonstrate competence and readiness for direct patient care. (2hr lecture/1hr lab) |

Prerequisite: Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy Program is required in order to register for Respiratory Therapy Courses
Course Competencies
- Explain the principles of medical gas therapy and its clinical applications.
- Demonstrate competency in administering bland aerosol therapy and aerosolized medications.
- Perform lung expansion therapy techniques to prevent or treat atelectasis.
- Perform airway clearance techniques, including manual and mechanical methods.
- Demonstrate the ability to properly use respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring patient safety and equipment functionality.
- Interpret basic respiratory data, including pulse oximetry, peak flow, and lung volumes.
- Apply infection control techniques when using respiratory equipment and performing procedures.
- Develop patient education skills focused on the use of respiratory therapy equipment and treatments.
- Apply critical thinking in recognizing changes in a patient's respiratory status.
