Course Title Advanced Blueprint Reading
Description Students will be expanding what was learned in the Introduction to Welding certificate. This class will also add new blueprints that have to do with Fabrication. Blueprints used in this class will also be used to build weldments used in the advanced welding classes. (Prerequisite: WELD 1007 Blueprint Reading or equivalent from another technical college or instructor approval)

Course Competencies

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of how to figure out scale, weld symbols and line types from what was learned from on the job or the earlier blueprint class.
  2. Obtain prints from local businesses and learn the different ways blueprints may be drawn or used.
  3. Demonstrate from reading the bill of materials that all the parts for the weldment are there and cut, punched, drilled and formed to match the print.
  4. Explain how to ensure that the blueprint being used for the weldment is the latest release blueprint.
  5. Examine the various layouts of blueprints by comparing different local company blueprints.
  6. Demonstrate how to read a blueprint by welding the weldment correctly to scale and weld size.
