South Central College student course placement determines a student’s readiness for reading, writing, and mathematics. These placements help students choose appropriate courses and allows them to register for prerequisites and program courses. Not all programs will require the same course placements.

New SCC student with no previous college experience
South Central College will utilize any of the following to determine placement.
- High School GPA within the past 10 years. Students need to ensure official high school transcript is submitted to South Central College Admissions.
- MCA, ACT, Accuplacer and SAT scores within the past 5 years. Students need to ensure scores are submitted to South Central College Admissions.
- College Level GPA/test scores:
- College Level Reading/English
- High School GPA: 2.6 or higher
- MCA Reading: 1047 or higher
- ACT Reading: 21 or higher
- Accuplacer Reading: 250 or higher
- College Level Math
- High School GPA: 2.8 or higher (with Algebra 2 or higher)
- MCA Math: 1158 or higher
- ACT Math: 22 or higher (19-22 eligible for various courses)
- Accuplacer QAS: 250 or higher and/or AAF 250 or higher
- College Level Reading/English
If your test scores/high school GPA is not college level ready, you need to complete the Guided Self Placement.
* Students in Allied Health and Nursing programs may need to complete an additional assessment to exhibit college readiness.
New or returning SCC student with prior college experience
- College level coursework. (Transfer students who have competed college level coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may have satisfied course placement requirements. Students need to submit official college transcripts to South Central College Admissions.)
- High School GPA within the past 10 years. (Students need to ensure official high school transcript is submitted to South Central College Admissions.)
- MCA, ACT, Accuplacer and SAT scores within the past 5 years. (Students need to ensure scores are submitted to South Central College Admissions.)
- College Level GPA/test scores
- College Level Reading/English
- High School GPA: 2.6 or higher
- MCA Reading: 1047 or higher
- ACT Reading: 21 or higher
- Accuplacer Reading: 250 or higher
- College Level Math
- High School GPA: 2.8 or higher (with Algebra 2 or higher)
- MCA Math: 1158 or higher
- ACT Math: 22 or higher (19-22 eligible for various courses)

- If your transcripts do not contain college level or successful college readiness coursework in Math, Reading or Writing OR your test scores/high school GPA is not college level ready, you need to complete the Guided Self Placement.

Current SCC Student
- If you would like to have your transcripts/scores re-evaluated for course placement, use the Course Placement Re-Evaluation form.
- If your re-evaluation has been completed and you do not agree with your course placement, take the Guided Self Placement assessment.
