The Lifesaver Grant assists students with a unforeseen emergencies that would otherwise threaten their ability to succeed in school. Students may be able to get help with critical expenses such as transportation costs; vehicle repairs; childcare; heat and electric utilities; medical, dental, and mental health treatment; and more. Rent, tuition & fees, and other recurring, expected expenses are not eligible.

Student Eligibility

Students are eligible to receive a grant of up to $1,000 for eligible expenses one time per academic year. To be eligible, students must be degree-seeking and currently enrolled and attending classes, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and enrolled in at least 6 credits. Non-credit, visiting, and PSEO students are not eligible.

Grant Process

Students must meet with an SCC staff member (see below to schedule an appointment) to discuss their need(s) and explore all options to resolve their emergency.

The SCC staff member will provide the link to our grant management software Beam and can assist with the application process if desired. Once the application is submitted, the review process will take 1 to 2 business days, which will be followed by a notification email to the student applicant. If approved, the student will log back into the Beam platform to claim their grant award.
