South Central College is committed to a campus where discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual violence are not tolerated, and where everyone has equal access to our programs and services regardless of sex, race, disability, or other protected status. This page explains that commitment, what Title IX means in plain language, who to contact, and where to find the policies behind it.
Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination
South Central College prohibits discrimination and harassment against persons in the terms and conditions of employment, personnel practices, or access to and participation in educational programs, services, and activities on the basis of membership or perceived membership in any of the following protected classes: race, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions), color, creed, religion, age, national origin, disability, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, familial status, and membership or activity in a local human rights commission. Protected class also includes genetic information for employees.
SCC follows Minnesota State Board Policy 1B.1: Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination in Employment and Education and System Procedure 1B.1.1, which govern the reporting and resolution of such matters system-wide.
Title IX: Sex Discrimination and Sexual Violence
Title IX is a federal civil rights law. In plain language, it means SCC cannot treat you differently because of your sex or gender — including because you are pregnant, a parent, or unmarried — and it protects you from sexual harassment and sexual violence in college programs and activities.
Title IX covers:
- Sex discrimination, including in admissions, programs, activities, and employment
- Sexual harassment and sexual violence
- Pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or participates in an investigation
