Interview-based Assessment

An oral interview-based assessment is a technical and structured interview used to assess a candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities. A credentialed faculty member will evaluate learning on responses given during a structured interview on the course learning outcomes. Sufficient evidence must be made available in the interview for verification and authentication of college level learning.

Interview-based procedure:
After meeting with the assigned faculty evaluator and agreeing to the interview-based assessment method and expectations, the student and faculty agree to the interview schedule and parameters for assessment:

  1. Student receives clear instructions and guidelines on how the assessment will proceed and what will be assessed.
  2. Necessary materials are made available to the student.
  3. Student responds to interview questions in order to demonstrate learning related to course competencies.

Skill Simulation or Demonstration

A skills demonstration involves practical examinations, skill demonstrations and simulations in which you actually demonstrate your prior learning as it relates to the learning outcomes of a course(s). This method includes practical examinations, skill demonstrations, laboratory demonstration, product assessments and simulations. Credentialed program faculty assess the specific learning outcomes and performance standards. Sufficient evidence must be made available from the skills simulation or demonstration for verification and authentication of learning.

Skill Simulation or Demonstration procedure:
After meeting with the assigned faculty evaluator and agreeing to the skills demonstration assessment method and expectations, the student and faculty agree to the skill demonstration schedule and parameters for assessment:

  1. Student receives clear instructions and guidelines on how the assessment will proceed and what will be assessed.
  2. Necessary equipment and/or course materials and performance checklists are made available to the student.
  3. Student is observed performing tasks required within a specified timeframe.

Note: It is important to note that the CPL process for a particular course(s) may include a combination of interview, projects and assignments, and skill simulation or demonstration.
