Play a Significant Role in Healthcare Diagnostics
As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) you will work in an expanding medical field under the supervision of a medical technologist or a physician. The job requires you to be dependable, give attention to detail and to be honest and ethical. You will work with people mostly in hospitals but also in clinics and doctors’ offices, conducting laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.

Program Details
South Central College graduates of the MLT program are largely employed in hospital, clinic and reference laboratory settings. Some graduates are continuing their education toward achieving a bachelor’s degree.
South Central College has been providing quality Medical Laboratory Technicians for many years throughout Southern Minnesota. We are excited to report that our employment placement rate over the last three years has been, on average, 100%. Jobs are in demand and the MLT field will continue to grow.

Once you have completed the program, you will be eligible for the national certification exam through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Certification Pass Rates
Graduates of South Central College’s Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program are eligible to sit for the national certification exam administered by the Board of Certification (BOC) under the direction of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). By passing this nationally recognized examination, graduates attain a credential that recognizes them as competent to carry out their professional duties in their medical laboratory career.

Graduation/Attrition Rates
South Central College Medical Laboratory Technician faculty are committed to helping students meet their educational goals. Over the past three years, our average completion rate was 95% for students who entered their final year of study and went on to obtain their AAS degree in Medical Laboratory Technician.
