South Central College is excited to introduce Splash, the college's otter mascot, inspired by the people, places, and values that define SCC. Splash was shaped through input from students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, neighbors, and community partners and reflects the pride and sense of belonging shared across the college.
The process of establishing a mascot began during the Spring Semester, with members of the college community helping identify what would best represent the institution and its students. Through that collaborative effort, the otter emerged as a strong choice for South Central College, celebrating the college's unique character and connection to the region.
“We wanted a mascot that reflects who we are as a college and the communities we serve,” said SCC President Ritu Raju. “Splash represents curiosity, adaptability, and resilience, qualities that are demonstrated every day by our students, faculty, and staff.”
Otters thrive in close-knit groups and look out for one another, reflecting SCC's commitment to care, connection, and shared success. Agile on land and in water, they are also resourceful problem-solvers who adapt to changing environments, much like SCC students as they navigate learning, hands-on experiences, and career opportunities with support from the college every step of the way.
Splash's link to South Central College is further reflected in the college's geography, with rivers surrounding its Faribault and North Mankato campuses. River otters have also made a remarkable comeback in South Central Minnesota, serving as a symbol of perseverance, possibility, and progress.
Splash will make appearances at campus events and activities throughout the year, fostering school spirit and bringing people together across both SCC campuses. For more information about Splash, visit www.southcentral.edu/splash.
