Course placement determines your readiness to succeed in reading, writing, and mathematics at South Central College and is the first step in ensuring you register for courses that support your success. Placement decisions follow MinnState Board Policy 3.3.
Documents Used to Determine Course Placement
You must submit one or more of the following:
- Official high school transcript that includes High school GPA within the last 10 years
- MCA, ACT, Accuplacer, or SAT scores within the last 5 years
- GED or TABE scores (if applicable)
- Official college transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution (if applicable)
College Level Placement for Reading & Writing
Meeting any of the standards below may indicate college readiness:
- High school GPA 2.6+
- MCA Reading: 1047+
- ACT Reading: 21+ or 19–20 with HS GPA 2.5+
- ACT English: 18+ or 16–17 with HS GPA 2.5+
- Accuplacer Reading: 250+
- GED RLA: 165+
- TABE Reading: 537+
Allied Health annd Nursing
These programs may require additional assessments to exhibit college readiness
College Level Placement for Math
Meeting any of the standards below may indicate college readiness:
- High school GPA 2.8+ with Algebra II grade of C‑ or higher
- MCA Math:
- Algebra: 1158+
- Statistics/Reasoning: 1148+
- ACT Math:
- Algebra: 22+, or 20–21 with HS GPA 2.7+
- Statistics/Reasoning: 19+, or 17–18 with HS GPA 2.7+
- Accuplacer:
- QAS Algebra or AAF: 250+
- QAS Statistics/Reasoning or AAF: 240+
- GED Math: 165+
- TABE Math: 538+
What If I Don’t Meet College‑Level Placement Scores?
If your documents do not meet college‑level criteria or if required documents are not submitted, you may be placed into College Readiness courses and/or asked to complete additional placement measures.
